KentOhio.Net was established in April 1996 and named "Kent Ohio Community Directory" as a strategic partnership with Ken McGregor of the Art Armory in Kent, Ohio and config.com of Ravenna, Ohio.

Ken McGregor had been producing the Kent Visitors Guide a traditional print media which was and still is distributed for FREE at such popular places as Ray's Place, Franklin Square Deli, the Kent Chamber of Commerce, Kent State University, and most of the hotels in beautiful downtown Kent! config.com had produced a community directory between 1994 through 1996 called the Akron Ohio Area Community Directory and we wanted to develop a directory within our own Portage County, Ohio home. At the time, there wasn't a whole lot of information on the 'net,other than Doctorate dissertations, and Masters thesis. so, we were introduce to Ken by Bill Sackman of Shoemakers Outlet in Ravenna, Ohio. Ken met with us and agreed to allow us to reproduce his Kent, Ohio Visitors Guide for the Internet.

For over a decade, Ken McGregor took the project over and continued to improve the KentOhio.Net project as a labor of love using his creative artistic skills as his visitors guide continued to grow and prosper. Config.com continues to provide the web hosting on Portage County's only facilities based ISP. Joe Rinehart, President of fun stuff for config.com provides his technical expertise and guides the projects Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to make it easier for people to find information about Kent, Ohio while at the same time promoting the merchants of the Kent - Ravenna area.
